    Managing pricing rules

    Set consistent bottle and glass pricing logic across your organization and sites, and understand the difference between saving rules and applying them.

    What you configure

    Bottle pricing rules

    • Price ranges with markup logic
    • Markup style, either multiplier or percentage

    Global pricing options

    • Lot cost policy (FIFO, LPP, HWM, WAC, LOW)
    • Rounding strategy
    • Pricing basis (purchase_price, or market-aware options)
    • Whether depleted lots are included in the cost basis

    Glass pricing rules

    • Logic specific to each beverage type (wine, sparkling, fortified)
    • basic mode: straightforward proportional logic
    • advanced mode: waste surcharge and fixed adjustments, per volume or shared across volumes

    Which market price is used

    When the pricing basis is market-aware, Vinius resolves the market price for each wine in this order:

    1. Your own market price. A price your organization added on the wine's Pricing tab ("Add a market price you know") or through the market price column of an Excel import. It applies to your organization only and always takes precedence.
    2. The Vinius market median. The median of crawled retailer prices and prices contributed by Vinius customers for that vintage and bottle size in your market. Used when your organization has not added its own price.
    3. The purchase price. Used when neither is available.

    So a rule such as "selling price = market price x 2" prices from your own figure when you have one, and from the Vinius median otherwise. The Pricing tab shows which of the two is in use, together with the Vinius median for comparison. Removing your own price point falls back to the median.

    Your own price also joins the shared market history as one observation, so other Vinius customers benefit from it. A retailer name and a link give it more weight there.

    When your own price gets old

    Your own price never expires by itself. Vinius does flag it on the Pricing tab when it is probably out of date: once it is six months old, or whenever it sits more than fifteen percent away from a Vinius median that rests on at least three linked retailer prices. You then choose Keep my price, which confirms it for another six months, or Use Vinius median, which removes your price point. After you apply pricing rules, the calculator tells you how many wines were priced from a flagged price.

    Scope strategy

    Use organization scope for one policy across all locations. Use site scope only when a site genuinely needs local pricing behaviour.

    In practice: start in org scope, and override at site level only for clear local differences.

    Save versus apply

    • Save rules stores the configuration only.
    • Apply rules recalculates wine prices using the current saved configuration.

    The recommended sequence is:

    1. Update the rules.
    2. Save.
    3. Apply.
    4. Spot-check bottle and glass prices.
