Quick answer
- Open a wine for editing and use the Wine Card tab. These settings belong to the wine, not to a card.
- House Wine and Recommended Wine feed the matching special categories on every card.
- Spotlight Wine sets the featured wine on your digital wine card, and there is one per site.
Why these live on the wine
Everything in Managing wine cards is per card: this selection, these categories, this layout. The four flags here are per wine, so setting one affects every card that includes that wine.
That is deliberate. A house wine is a house wine whether it appears on the main list, the summer list or the tablet.
Display options
House Wine
Marks the wine for special grouping. Wines flagged this way fill the House Wines special category, which organises its contents by style automatically.
The category only appears on a card if you have generated it, and its displayed name is editable under Custom Category Headers.
Recommended Wine
Marks the wine for special highlighting, and fills the Recommended Wines special category the same way.
This flag does more than it looks: it is also the second step in the fallback chain that decides which wine is featured on your digital wine card. See below.
Spotlight Wine
This is the setting that answers "how do I change the big featured wine at the top of the tablet?".
Turning it on features the wine in the hero of the digital wine card in magazine style. Three rules govern it:
- One spotlight per site. Turning it on for a wine replaces whatever was there. Vinius names the current spotlight before you switch, so you always know what you are displacing.
- It needs a digital wine card. If the active site has none configured, the control tells you so. Set one up first, see The digital wine card.
- The wine has to be on the card. If it is not, Vinius offers Add to Digital Wine Card & Feature, which adds it to the public card and sets it as the spotlight in one step, rather than making you go and edit the card first.
If the spotlight wine is later removed from the card, the hero falls back automatically. Nothing breaks, but the wine you chose stops being shown, which is worth knowing before you wonder why the tablet changed on its own.
Offered by the Glass
Enables glass pricing for this wine, which is what makes it eligible for by-the-glass display and for the Glass Prices special category.
The control is unavailable when the venue has no glass volumes configured for that beverage type. Set those up first in Pricing Calculator, Glass Pricing, see Managing glass volumes.
Custom labels
Labels are not managed here. The tab links you to the Labels tab, where you create and apply them. A label can then become its own wine card category, see Using labels to organise and filter wines.
What the tab shows you but does not control
Four blocks on this tab are read-only summaries, there so you can judge how the wine will present without opening four other screens:
- Wine details: grape variety, region hierarchy and style
- Pricing: whether the wine is on dynamic or manual pricing, its bottle price and its glass pricing, plus the dynamic price available for comparison
- Glass volumes: the volumes configured for this venue, auto-calculated from the bottle price and your organization rules
- Wine lists: which cards currently include this wine
To add or remove the wine from a card, go to the Wine Lists page. The membership list here shows the state, it does not change it. The one exception is the spotlight's Add & Feature action described above.
A practical routine
- Set Offered by the Glass while you are configuring pricing, not later. The glass categories depend on it.
- Flag House Wine and Recommended Wine as you build your programme, once per wine.
- Set the Spotlight Wine when the featured bottle changes, weekly or seasonally. It is the fastest single change you can make to the guest-facing tablet.
