Quick answer
- You earn Vinius Points for adding to the shared wine catalogue, for tasting, and for bringing new people to Vinius.
- Points are added as soon as you do the thing that earns them. Each action has a daily cap.
- See your total in your profile and your rank on the leaderboard: on the web under Community, Leaderboard; in the app under Community, People, Top Contributors.
- Badges mark milestones, such as the number of wines you added. They are separate from points.
- You cannot spend points yet.
What earns points
The same list appears under How to Earn Points on the web leaderboard.
| What you do | Points |
|---|---|
| Add a wine that is new to the Vinius catalogue | 10 |
| Add a vintage that is new to the catalogue | 5 |
| Add a winery that is new to the catalogue | 6 |
| Someone you invited joins Vinius | 30 |
| Write a full tasting assessment | 5 |
| Taste blind with a group and submit your note | 3 |
| Finish the taste profile questions for the first time | 15 |
| Someone endorses your public tasting note | 3 |
A few details decide whether an action counts:
- New to the catalogue. Adding bottles of a wine Vinius already knows earns nothing. Points go to whoever first adds the wine, vintage or winery, on the web or in the app.
- Full assessment only. A quick rating earns no points. The structured assessment does.
- Blind tastings. You earn points for each note you submit, at the reveal. Not for a wine you registered yourself, because you knew what it was.
- Taste profile. Only the first time. Retaking the questions earns nothing extra.
- Endorsements. Endorsing someone else's note gives you 1 point. When your note reaches 5 endorsements and becomes Community Endorsed, you get 10 more. See Tasting notes and ratings.
Every action has a daily cap. Above it you can keep going, but those actions earn no more points that day.
The points you score when you guess the wine at a blind tasting are something else. They decide that evening's awards and never reach your Vinius Points.
Inviting people
On the web, open Account Settings and the My Invites tab, then choose Invite Someone. You get 30 points once the person you invited completes their registration.
- Every person has 10 invites for life. Revoking a pending invitation gives the invite back.
- An invite creates the other person's own Vinius account. To add someone to your organization, use the Users tab instead. See Managing users and access.
Where you see your points
On the web:
- Your profile menu, top right, shows your points.
- Community in the menu has a Leaderboard tab with All-time and This month, your own rank, How to Earn Points and Achievement Badges.
In the app:
- Open Community, then People. Top Contributors shows the leaderboard, all-time or this month, with your rank among all contributors.
- My public profile on the same screen opens your profile. Your Progress shows your Vinius Points and how far you are from your next badge.
The leaderboard is shared across Vinius. Other members see your name, your points and your top badge there, and your points on your public profile.
Badges
Badges reward milestones in what you contributed: the wines, vintages and wineries you added, the tasting notes you wrote and the people you invited. They rest on those counts, not on points, so you keep a badge once you have earned it. Your profile lists them under Badges & Achievements.
Your points are yours
Points belong to you, not to an organization. Switching organization or joining another one does not change them.
You cannot spend points yet. They count towards your rank on the leaderboard. Vinius can correct points that were awarded by mistake or through misuse.
Who can do this
- Every role earns points: owners, admins, managers, staff and viewers, in any type of organization.
- What you can earn follows what your role lets you do. Adding wines to the catalogue takes a role that may add wines, such as owner, admin, manager or staff. Tasting notes, blind tastings, the taste profile and invites are open to everyone.
- Web and phone both award points. The full explainer and invites are on the web.
