Quick answer
- In the app, open More, then Taste profile under Tasting.
- Vinius builds the profile from the wines you rate, and every rated wine sharpens it.
- Rated little or nothing yet? Five quick questions give you a first read in under a minute.
- Only you can see it. My Assistant in the web app uses it to recommend wines that suit you.
What the profile shows
- A name for your style, such as Bright and fresh, Silky and elegant or Bold and structured, with a line on what it means.
- Your palate: body, tannin, acidity, sweetness, oak and alcohol. Each gets a word, such as Medium to full or Zesty, and a line saying where it comes from: Based on 6 wines, Your answers and 3 wines, From your answers or Set by you.
- Colour chips: All, Red, White, Rosé and Sparkling. A colour gets its own palate once you have rated 8 wines of it. Until then its chip shows how far you are, for example 3 of 8 rated.
- What you rate highest: the grapes, regions, styles, aromas and food you score at or above your own average, each with its average score and the number of wines behind it. An entry needs at least two wines.
- Your scoring: your average rating, and how many grapes and regions you have tried.
A label above the name says how much the profile rests on: From your answers, First impressions (1 to 4 rated wines), Taking shape (5 to 14) or Established (15 or more). Until you reach the top level, the screen tells you how many more wines take you to the next one.
How Vinius builds it
The profile reads the score you give on your tasting notes, quick or full, written in the app or on the web.
- One vote per wine. Several notes on the same vintage count once, through the most recent one.
- Your own scale. Each score is compared with your average. A wine you score well above your usual counts for more than one you score below it, so someone who rates everything between 70 and 80 still gets a clear profile.
- What you tasted. A full assessment tells Vinius the body, tannin, acidity, sweetness and alcohol you perceived. For a quick rating, Vinius reads the structure from what it knows about the wine: its grapes, alcohol, sweetness and time in oak.
- Wines only. Ratings of spirits are left out.
Notes from a blind tasting count once they are saved to your notes at the reveal. Delete a tasting note and its score stops counting.
The five quick questions
Start them with Start the questions on the profile, from the Find your taste card on Home, or with Start on the one-time prompt that appears on Home after you sign up or update the app. They cover:
- How well you know wine.
- Light or hearty dishes, and dark or milk chocolate.
- For newcomers, a green apple or a ripe peach, and mild or spicy food. Everyone else picks a white style and a red style.
- What you usually drink, and whether you prefer your favourites or something new.
- When you open a bottle, whether you drink wine with food, and what you usually spend.
Your answers set a starting point, and every wine you rate moves the profile on from there. The first time you finish, you earn Vinius points; retaking the questions earns nothing extra. Retake the questions replaces your earlier answers.
Tap Skip on the prompt and Vinius does not ask again. The close button on the Home card hides the card for good. The profile itself always stays under More, in Tasting.
Adjusting your palate
Tap Adjust next to Your palate to open Adjust your palate. Move the slider for body, tannin, acidity, sweetness or oak, then tap Save. Only the sliders you move are set by you; the rest keeps following your ratings. Alcohol has no slider, and Adjust works on All only, not on a single colour.
Reset to my ratings removes everything you set by hand.
Why Vinius asks
The profile is how Vinius learns what you enjoy, so it can recommend wines that suit you. My Assistant in the web app already takes it into account.
Who can see it
Only you. It is not on your public profile, and other members cannot see it, including the owners and admins of your organization. It belongs to you rather than to an organization, so switching organization does not change it.
Resetting or deleting it
- Reset to my ratings clears your slider settings.
- Retake the questions replaces your answers.
- Deleting a tasting note takes its score out of the profile.
There is no button that deletes only the taste profile. Delete my account, under More, Settings, Account and privacy, deletes it with the rest of your personal data. Download my data on the same screen includes it.
Who can do this
- Every role: owners, admins, managers, staff and viewers each have their own profile, in any type of organization.
- Phone app only. The web app has no taste profile screen, but ratings you give on the web count.
